Check out: Poking Smot

Music is a big part of me. I listen to music many percent of my day. I can barely walk a short distance without plugging in my iPhone headset. No kidding.

I also love to discover new music whether it is a new song of a band/an artist that I like, or if it's something completely new to my ears. I can sit for many hours just searching for, and listening to new music. Sometimes, when I find a song that I really like right away, I want to listen to it over and over again, which makes me afraid to "over listen" and get tired of it too soon.. Though that rarely happens with really well made songs.

When it comes to my taste of music, it happens to be extremely variated. It's calm, it's rock, it's folk, it's fast, it's electronic.. Sometimes even classic! (Not exactly easy to find the common denominator!) It depends on what I'm doing, and on my mood, I guess. When people ask me about my taste, usually, I just say I got good taste (and good taste doesn't have one genre..). I've always been of the opinion that I got a great taste of music. I might even think that it's greater than most people, I admit it.. (but come on, who doesn't think that!?). But around a year ago, I actually heard it from someone else too! Someone that I didn't even know. I received an email at Facebook from a girl asking me to follow a music site called "Poking Smot", since I was a fan of some good bands and artists (her words..). Anyways, my point is, you should also like this page! I have found some great stuff from this page, I can assure you. So If you, like me, are a (wo)man with good taste of music (which I'm sure you are!) you should definitely like this page as well (If you don't do it already, of course..). I've already spread the word to some of my friends, and they all like the concept. And it got nothing to do with what kind of music you like. Hip Hop, Rock, Indie, Electronic, Rap, Pop, you name it. They're all represented.

First, go in and like the page:

How it works, is really simple. When you like the Poking Smot site at Facebook, you will get daily music news coming up. Normally it looks a bit like this:

As you can see, it shows the cover photo, the title, the band/artist, the link and best of all, the tags. Cause that's how you will now whether this is something for you or not. Ratatat is one of the bands I've discovered through Poking Smot btw.

Now you know what to do, you won't regret it!

Promise..

Edit: actually, they also got a homepage, where you can search for a specific genre etc, http://pokingsmot.net

DIY: First Aid Kit

I know I promised you a new DIY this weekend as well..

And I have some projects going on..!

One thing I did finish already is my "First Aid Kit" suitcase!

Remember the post where I showed my Candy Skull suitcase?

Well, it's kind of the same concept, but I think I like this one even better. And it's so much cooler - and more practical - to have my medications in this cute suitcase instead of in the big box where I used to keep them before..

I bought this little suitcase on Søstrene Grene for about 60 NOK

Not the best photo, but you get the point, right? Make a cross (first with a pencil, in case you're not happy with the first one), Then you use a white, waterproof pen. No need for a ruler, in my opinion it is nicer when it kind of looks homemade!

Then: color it! It depends on the pen, but I had to do it twice.

Et voilà!

On the other side I simply wrote "First aid kit". Cause that's what it is:)

Then, the only remaining thing: put your medications in it!

I just had to show you the coolest plasters from H&M. This summer I wanted to wear them even though I didn't need to!

Now go make yourself a First Aid Kit!

Perfect Day

The rain has moved on

And left a new day

Nothing seems to move everything is still

It’s just a perfect day

I just had the most perfect Sunday! Wish every Sunday was like today.

Normally I find Sundays a bit depressing, like I feel the new week is getting closer and closer every second. Which it is, indeed, but today I finally was able to enjoy and make the most out of it!

The fact that the weather was nice, helped a lot of course. So after I did my weekly cleaning duty, I went for a walk under the sun. It felt so good, like I was filled up with new energy! Then I had a great ending of the week when we had some friends coming over for homemade apple pie and Norwegian "kanelboller" (what's the English word!?) and hot chocolate! I don't think I have been that full in.. well, a long time.

Today's outfit! Finally I got to wear my new old jacket! It's a vintage Barbour jacket bought on ebay, very oversized and very worn - just the way I like it!

I got a shadow! That means - the sun is shining!

Dunno why, but I find this beautiful..

I simply love the autumn colors!

Beautiful Bergen (who would think this is the 2nd biggest city in Norway!?)

The perfect (week) end!

Now I hopefully got energy and motivation for some hard work the next days. It won't even be a full week, cause I'm actually going away to Köln this Thursday! Yay! Though I probably don't have the time for vacation, but who cares!? Haha. (Ask me again the day before my exam..)

Hope your weekend was just as good as mine!

Edit: The lyrics in the beginning of the post is called Perfect Day by Miriam Stockley. It was shown on one of my favorite TV programs in my childhood, called "The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny". I'm gonna show this to my future children. So much better than the crap they're making for children now a days.

Since last time...

...this is what have happened in pictures:

Norway decided to give the Nobel Peace Prize of 2012 to... bam barabam barabam... EU!! (I won't get into the discussion whether it's deserved or not..)

So, this is how I spend my days lately. As you can see; a lot of fun.

Then mum came to town and bought me a really nice dinner. And coffee. And new clothes. And some other probably-not-so-interesting-for-you-stuff. Thank you, mum!

And that's about that. Or as we say in French: bref. One of my favorite French words btw. Now you know if you didn't know.

Edit: Due to my busy time at school, and my mum's visit, I haven't had the time for more DIY's, like I promised. But it will happen in not too long, hopefully this weekend!

Yogi Tea Wisdom

I drink a lot of tea. I'm what you can call a tea person.

One of my favorites is Yogi. The tea itself is good, that's probably the most important. But the fact that every single tea bag got its own little word of wisdom, makes it so much better!

A couple of favorites from this week:

How sweet is that!?

Tomorrow's gonna be a good day

Like I've said so many times now (I feel like I'm repeating myself over and over), Bergen is, without exaggerating, a very rainy city. When you're not from Bergen and are not used to it from when you were a kid, it takes some time to get used to it. In the beginning, it's quite depressing. But then, you just accept it. You surrender. It won't get any better if you complain and feel sorry for yourself anyway. You learn that it's just the way it is. The weather is for no one to control. Except God maybe.

You learn things like; never go somewhere without your umbrella; you should probably wear rain boots every day; if it looks nice in the morning when you leave home, don't take it for granted that it will continue to stay nice all day long. And a friday night, if you feel a little bit pretty before going to a party - which you hesitated to even go to because of the storm outside - you certainly don't anymore after the rain and wind messed up hair and makeup and made you look more like a witch than a princess.

Belive me, I've experienced it for two years now.

How I usually see Bergen - through my umbrella (this was yesterday btw)

But I think we who live in Bergen are really thankful when the sky is blue every once in a while. Cause we are probably the opposite of spoiled when it comes to nice weather. And it's so nice to see how the people of Bergen is enjoying it for all that it's worth. Everyone is smiling when the sun finally decides to shine for us. Everyone is happy.

And now it's supposed to stay nice until monday, isn't that just great!?

And we deserve it, hell yeah!!

Today, me and one of my flatmates went for a walk in the sun, and it was so nice to finally be able to go outside because I wanted to, not because I had to. And just to see how nice everything is with all the autumn colors. Cause I never see them when it's raining and I'm hurrying to school.

Autumn colors

I actually try to plan my outfits for the next days. That may sound a bit strange to you, but I want to wear some clothes I might not be able to wear again for a long time. And I'm gonna wear my RayBans tomorrow, that's for sure! I just fixed them, so now I have to use every possible chance to use them before the winter forces them to stay in their case most of the time. Maybe all of the time.

This almost never happens in Bergen.. Just sayin'

The only problem with nice weather when you don't have it too often, is when you're not able to enjoy it. Like, this weekend, I'm working. So I get bad conscience if I'm not out enjoying it as much as I possibly can before that. But then again, a student needs to study as well.

What a dilemma.

I'll stop now, Bergen's meteorology probably doesn't interest that many.

Music for rainy days...

I live in Bergen at the west coast of Norway. It's probably the most rainy city there is. I mean, in the world. It rains more or less all day, every day. With so few exceptions that you almost forget what the sun looks like after a while.. Especially nowadays. Autumn is even worse than usual. Doomed.

So to the point. When the weather is so depressing, you need good music to keep you company.

Here's some of the music I ♥ at the moment.

Raining Again - Moby
 Melody Day - Caribou
♥ The Windfall - Hidden Orchestra
♥ Monoliths - Lotus Plaza
Memory of a Ghost - Virtual Boy
Solider On - The Temper Trap
♥ Clone - Metric
♥ Red Rabits - The Shins
♥ Particles - Josh Pyke
Suego Faults - Wolf Gang
Hearts a Mess - Gotye
♥ Dirty Paws - Of Monsters and Men
Heart of Stone - The Raveonettes
Black Swan - Thom Yorke
♥ A Candle's Fire - Beirut
Aviary - Mint Julep
Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens
♥ I Wanna Go - Summer Heart
♥ Between the Bars - Elliott Smith
♥ Hours - Tycho
♥ October - Tunng

Of course my complete Spotify list is also called "For rainy days".

What else.

Edit: I see afterwards that I didn't exactly give Bergen that good publicity in this post.. But, I have to say that it is a really lovely city. And okay, I might have exaggerated just a little bit about the rain.

Statement inspo

I simply love big, visible jewelry. Big earrings, big bracelets, big rings. But above all; big necklaces. The so called statement necklaces. And the bigger the better. Some people thought it was just a trend that would be gone as quick as it came, but it's still going strong. It's hotter than ever. I think the reason why is because it can really do a whole look. You can dress up totally simple in an anonymous outfit, and then with a statement necklace, you can stand out in a crowd anyway. It shows your personality. Shows your style. I have a little collection, but I'm always in search for more. And, like with everything else, I think of possibilities of how I can make them myself. I think it will be this weeks DIY project. I will show you the result, so stay tuned!

But before I start, I had to find some inspiration. And I thought I could share the best shots with you.

Enjoy!

A woman who always looks stunning is Olivia Palermo from The City. Often the main reason why, is because she's wearing a statement necklace. Just take a look at these pics...

Did you also get inspired?

More autumn faves...

Yesterday I posted a list of some of my autumn cravings. Though the list wasn't really made by me (what a shocker..).

Well, anyway, this evening I made myself a little supper of some other things I'd like to add to this list. Some things that I like a lot, especially when it's raining outside. It happens to do that here in Bergen..

These favorites would be (in a random order):

♥ Juicy oranges
 Crispy walnuts
Tasty chai latte. Home made. With honey. Did I mention home made?

Yummy for tummy.

Golden details of today

I love clothes. I love accessories. I love fashion. But (there is always a 'but'..). This is not a fashion blog. I follow and admire a lot of them, like www.polliani.comwww.mariaskappel.no and www.hippiehippiemilkshake.blogspot.no. But that doesn't mean I'm one of those who will post "Today's outfit" etc.

Still, I might, every now and then post details of what I'm wearing or fashion that inspires me.

So, I'll do an exception from my unwritten rule today, and give you a glimpse of what I was wearing today!

Two of my favorite pieces mixed together. The blazer is vintage from Notting Hill in London. The necklace is from Paris - what else.

I wear this when I miss Paris more than usual. And when I wanna match with an other golden item.

Just love the buttons!

Normally I don't dress up that much during the week, if it isn't a special occasion (like it was today) - wish I did! For instance, I wish I dared to use more skirts and dresses on daily basis. I tend to be quite boring (at least in my eyes) actually, it's like I'm scared of being overdressed. I guess I don't want people to think things like, "Oh, look at her, she tried too hard!". But I love when girls don't care what others might think, and dress the way they want to and the way they feel.

I'm definitely working on that. Starting today, more dressing up also on normal weekdays.

Promise.
